Studio Update (pt. 2)

Category: Studio

Got the interface in. Everything works nicely and quality is pretty damn good. I’ve recorded a couple of bands and everything has come out pretty good. So I’m pretty happy. The only thing I’m waiting for is the podcasting kit. That’s a larger mixer, two mics, and headphones. Once I get that, I think the rest of my moolah is going to go towards more memory and an external hdd for my lappy. Then once that is purchased, I’l buy drum mics, assuming the mics I’m using now don’t sound perfect by that point.

Studio Update!!!

Category: Studio

Just got the computer, and some major donations! Computer is all set up. All I need is to buy everything. Concert May 9th (I think) to raise money. I should be able to buy everything except the drum mics before then, and if that is the case, then I will be pumping out podcasts like there is NO tomorrow. I’m happy. Really happy. I know I keep saying, “a couple more months”, “just a few more months”. But it’s finally coming together.

:)

!!!

Commentary: Tom Cruise, Eat Your Heart Out, But Keep It Peaceful

Category: Rants

I was innocently stumbling along one snowy night (Feb 12th 08) when I came upon this article:

[link]

I want to talk about it really quickly.

I am all for protesting, I think that it is our most important right next to freedom of speech. However, when one is doing a ‘peaceful’ protest (the only valid form of protesting in my opinion) using picket signs with the words “Honk if you hate Scientology” is bullshit. In the same sentence, the article explains (and I quote) “police were on the scene as well to ensure a peaceful demonstration.” Fail. I’m sorry, choose better wording, but that is unacceptable, and it infuriates me because I, too think Scientology is bullshit, but if you’re going to protest, do it in a manner as to not bullshit your whole protest. By doing that, it would just give me one more flaw of the opposing argument to point out . People have the right to follow Scientology if they choose, but then if they have the freedom to believe it, I should have the freedom to shit on their lives if I feel like it.
Look at the quote: “ “We want people to know we are raising awareness, and that is one of our main tools to fight Scientology.” They are talking about the death of would-be 40 year old Lisa McPherson, who died under care of the Scientologist church staff in 1995. They were later charged with criminal neglect and practicing medicine without a license. No. She’s not a tool. She’s an unfortunate death as a result of the ignorance of the religion. Extremely bad wording. To make the unnecessary, unfortunate death of one follower of Scientology your “main tool” is wrong. It’s exploiting her death. That’s bad.

What is your take on this article?

Review Time! (TPS Reports, The Pseudo Superheroes)

Category: Music, Procrastinating

I haven’t done a review in a while (or a post for that matter, so here it goes):
One of the more well known bands in the Connecticut local music scene, The Pseudo Superheroes (TPS for short) has recently released their second album, TPS Reports. Consisting of 7 completely unique, lively tracks, it certainly does not dissatisfy. TPS is categorized as Ska-core, containing many characteristics of Ska and Hardcore music. In keeping with the “Ska” genre, they have a horns section consisting of trumpet, trombone, tenor saxophone, and alto saxophone. They have a lot of heavy stuff (and screaming), so if your headache prone, or just not into hard music, TPS is not the band for you. Their sound can be compared to The Flaming Tsunamis or Voodoo Glow Skulls.

TPS Reports differs from their first album,Getting Even Has Never Been This Much Fun very little. Same sound, although the recording does sound much better, most notably on the drums. They have just about the same sound in terms of genre, although I can say that it seems much more professional, mostly in that they don’t scream just to scream. They use it to emphasize important points. The writing has also seemed to mature, going from lyrics about a massacre at a drive in, to lyrics of politics and important issues.

TPS definitely has a future if that’s where they want to go with it. Their shows are amazing and energetic, and make you not mind the black eye or bloody lip you got from the mosh pit so much. They can be contacted on MySpace at [link] and the album can be bought off Interpunk at [link]. I definitely recommend them to anyone into anything ska or hardcore-esque. If your into metal, reggae, or punk, they’re also definitely worth a listen.

23 Sucks

Category: Rants

I recently saw a video on youtube about ‘The 23 Enigma’, or the belief that all events are connected to the number 23.

NO.

Wrong.

Fail.

It’s the mind’s ability to make order out of chaos. I know that it is called matrixing when it occurs with ’seeing’ faces in random patterns, but I’m not sure what its called on a psychological scale. It’s finding a way to connect unconnected objects and situations. Maybe the number 23 is just a mathematically common number that with the units used in today’s world, seems to appear more often than others. Maybe people are just stupid, and decided to pick 23 and then show the examples that relate to that, while not presenting the equally occurring other numbers (called selective advertising). It certainly is something to invoke thought, but not in the importance of the number 23, but more in the psychology of the human mind and what it decides to focus on.
